90 Maxima Speedometer not working
Folks,
I have a 90 Maxima, and the speedometer works erratically. The needle will suddenly drop down to zero, or get stuck at the max position. The RPM meter and the odometer work fine, and keep a correct log of the mileage.
Is it possible to change just the speedometer? How difficult is it to pull out the speedometer from the dash? If anyone has any instructiions, it would be most helpful.
Best Regards,
RW

on my how-to page, I have instructions on fixing a dead maxima clock, those instructions will show you (with pics) how to take apart everything up to the gauges
good luck

I had a similar probvlem, although the speedo needle was never in MAX position. Check the speed sensor on the tranny. It's located below the oil filter (mine was covered in oil from oil changes). The sensor can separate from it's housing and work erratically. Clean it, tap it back in place and hope.
