New VTCs installed
New VTCs installed
I just replaced my old worn out VTC sprockets with brand new ones. I did end up removing both heads although it is unnecessary to do so to replace your VTCs. The reason I took off both of my heads was to easily drill out and replace some broken exhaust studs. I also installed a new O2 sensor while I was in there.
Want answers to all the infamous VE engine hesitation problems? Has nothing else worked? First, try advancing your ignition timing. Second, you might just have to replace your VTCs. It was worth every penny, my car is a rocket now! VE power!!!
Hit me with questions if you have them. If you're just looking for basic VTC information, DO A SEARCH and you will find all the info you need.

Was the hesitation that you were feeling very random across the rev range? I sometimes have great power off of the line and the engine seems to hit a ceiling at around 3500 to 4000 RPM OR I get poor low end performance, jerky acceleration but good top end.
Is this the VTC's?
How much did the parts cost you?
Thanks for any info...

hmm...
on a scale of 1-10 (1 being putting gas in, 10 being a clutch job w/ a flathead screwdriver as your only tool) how hard is this job? i'm contemplating getting a rebuild kit and doing that myself over vacation(april).

), it will save alot of downtime too. This way all you have to is pull the orginal heads then replace them with the other heads. Now you have an extra set to sell someone (sell them to me)
.

seriously though, thats what i was thinking about doing.
there are two junkyards around here that have 1 set of heads (combined). what i was thinking was this. get a spare set of heads, rebuild the VTC, send the cams to get reground (260 grind, like you said in another thread), heads ported and polished, 5 angle valve job.
before i can do this though, i need tires and my clutch replaced.

Once you get the extra heads there isn't any rush. It took me 3 months after buy my extra heads to have them worked on and installed. One thing is for sure a 260 grind for the VE's would widen the powerband about 100-300rpm. It would probably gain around 5-9fwhp at the peak and combined with P+P heads around 10-20fwhp at the rev limiter.
