Hi: Today I spent a little time on tuning up my car. I replaced spark plugs with NGK Platinum. Repalced PCV valve, fuel filter and bleed clutch. I cannot beleive how much I neglected the pcv valve. (thanks guys for telling me to change it). The PCV (and the hose) was partially blocked with black gunk. Here is the mystry. When I took out the old fuel filter, I saw a black plastic tube inserted in the out side (where gas comes out of the filter). This tube is about 2.0 inches long. I have no idea why it was in. Is it a fuel saver? I did not install it in the new filter. Any ideas?

By the way, I did not see a dramatic change in the car's performance, however, the car runs smoother.

Next (first) upgrade is Clear corners, I am excited.

are those platinum plugs the ones that last 100,000 miles?
or do those only come in new cars....for your question you should have the car running and check if anythings leaking out of it from pressure.

RE NGK Plugs

The plugs I installed are BKR6EVX-11. I did check for fuel leaks both with car runnig and with ig on. I examine the fuel lines very closly and will check again from time to time to make sure no leaks. Here is the puzzle. The car was smooth to begin with and I felt it opened up a little bit but not a huge difference.

MSK, its funny you say that about the plastic tube.

Last weekend, I decided to replace my fuel filter with a Purolator one.

I loosed the philips screws on both side and attempted to loosen the hose. The hose felt as if it was glued to the damn filter. Since this is a newly acquired 91 SE for me, I think the previous owner never bothered to change the filter.

Anyhow, it took some rubber gloves (for extra grip) and a whole lot of tugging and twisting and crying before the hose on both ends became loose and allowed me to take them off.

After removing the top "OUT" hose, I saw a tube (the size of a small drinking straw) come out and then I guess it got sucked back in. I thought I was daydreaming. I tried tapping the upper hose to see if it would come out, but it did not.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

BTW, does anyone know what that small tube for? Is there any harm in taking it out, or leaving it in , etc.

Probably Matt should know?

Hi Matt: I hope you get to see this post that I posted a couple of days ago. Could you tell us what is this black straw like thing inside the filter and should we leave it in or remove it?

Thanks
