Reasonable price for repair?

Hi all,

I had our car worked on at a Nissan dealership for the following:

1. Replace all manifold studs (front and back) - gaskets, etc.
2. Replaced thermostat (it was on it's way out)
3. Replace fuel filter (it's about time)
4. L.O.F.
5. inspection sticker (requires removal of non-working/rusted foglights which they will do)

The cost is around $1,285 (includes Mass. tax, etc). The manifold studs repair alone was around $900. The thermostat alone requires a couple of hours I think. Does the price sound reasonable? (I am from the North East)

that is one hell of an A$$ raping man! Sorry but i am figuring you do not enjoy taking it up the A$$ so I would definately not advise paying that much. Sheit you can get the fuel filter and do that yourself same with the thermostat. As for the manifold studs, dude that should be no more then $400 tops, unless your mechanic is into ****in over everyone! I will check with the "dealership" here that charges $70 per hour tomorrow and let you know how much this would cost here at Glenn Nissan in Lexington Ky. That should give you a good idea.

I just got the car back. I ended up paying $1,099. The charge to replace all front and rear manifold studs ended costing $777 ($148 parts & $629 labor).

The other stuff done were: replaced thermostat - drained/replaced coolant and bled the system, replace fuel filter, L.O.F., and Mass. state inspection.

BTW, the labor rate was $72/hr.

I had called around before having the manifold studs done. Three or more dealers in the area quoted $1,200++. I was able to locate a couple of independent shops but one of them even costs more. The indy tech even suggested that I go to this one Nissan dealer (same place were I had the work done). I asked around and one car owner suggested the same dealer I went to. He said he did the work with the help of a friend (auto mechanic) but wished he had the dealership do the work.

From responses to my inquiry I posted a while back regarding this I found out that price varies significantly based on which part of the couture one lives in. This was why I was curious what the price range was that people paid here in New England.

How much is the estimate from Glen Nissan to replace 'all' front/rear manifold studs?

P.S. The car runs sooo quiet now!

Thats a high price per hour for labor. I paid $350 to have my studs replaced, and have my new cat and y-pipe installed. But they charge $55 per hour where I am at. And the thermostat should only take about 15-20 min to do. But then again dealerships aways rape you with repairs.
