antenna replacement

My power antenna would not go down, so I followed the instructions on the gen34mg site and opened the spool up. I was unable to find the expected broken piece of mast- instead it was a little bit kinked. I then unspooled the plastic wire and tried to feed it back in, but it wouldn't go. I think that the motor might be messed up, and I just want to ditch it. I get reception without the power antenna because of the rear window antenna, so do I need to replace the long one? If so, can I just install one of the short ones like skymax's? Thanks for the help and sorry this is so long.

If you take the cover off the motor, there will be a small white plastic gear looking thing. Take that out and you can spool it back in then put the plastic thing back in place. Maybe what is happening is the teeth are stripped on your antenna mast? Maybe some extra grease will help. Just a thought.

The only thing that makes me think differently is that the motor started squeaking when going up or down about a week before I took it out. I think that it may be shot- so I'd rather go for a small stick-on antenna if possible. Thanks for the idea though.

1. How did you wire the new antenna, 2. How was the reception, and 3. what did you do with the opening for the old antenna? Thanks for the help

when you feed the mast back in.. are you doing it when the motor is trying to pull it down? ie: turning on the radio first, then insert the mast, then turn the radio off (then start feeding the mast down as the motor is pulling it back in)

b/c you cant force the mast down

I need to do an antenna replacement. Where is this gen34mg site, and what rear window antenna?

I did try to feed the antenna back down when I turned the radio off. It just felt as if it hit a solid block and would not continue down. I rotated it all around but could not get it to go in. I don't really mind because I like the look of the whip antennas better, I just don't know how to wire them and what to do with the old one.

Hi all... i'm new to this forum...
I searched for that site as you've suggested... but there is not thread found with this keyword... my rear antenna doesn't come up all the way... It would come partway up and then stop... when I turn off the radio, it would go part way and then the motor would keep making noise but the antenna won't go down =(

I just got my maxima (93 GXE and loving it... but i would like to get this fixed... also... what other cool sites can i find info and mod for the 3rd generations?)

if I remember correctly, you've been around since late 2000, sometime around November I think

I know you've only made somewhere between 150-200 posts but you know how things work around here

and I dont like the Kansas Jayhawks (your name reminded me of them)
