I changed the fluid on my 93 SE when it had nearly 100K on it and I now want to do it to my 93 GXE that has 77K on it. I looked at the tranny the other day and it doesn't look like it's going to be as easy as my last job was. I want to change the filter and the fluid, so has anyone done this to their VG?

YOu said filter. So I am assuming you have an auto.
assuming that I do not know about changing the filter, but the fluid is easy.
Find the drain plug first. Under car on tranny.
then on top of tranny there is a black round 1.5" tall object just under you oil filter. That is the speedo gear. This is where you fill the tranny back up. of course check you levels of fluid before you drain anyhting.
Be carefull.

Its easier to fill the tranny fluid back up by just putting a funnel in where the tranny dip stick goes. All you should have to do is just take out the drain plug and just pour the new fluid in once the other fluid is drained.

chainging tranny

what were you syaing about checking levels before you drain anything? and you don't ahve to flush it out before you pour more fluid in? I assume theres a line that says "fill to here" on it, then just fill there.

You won't be able to change the filter on that transmission unless you are willing to remove it and dissassemble it! The "pan" is on the top of the transmission and the filter is down in the bottom and can't be removed without splitting the case. I changed mine when I rebuilt the transmission with about 150,000 miles on it. Little or no trash in the filter.

To add to whats said...just pulling the drain plug only gets out a fraction of the fluid in the trannie. Only way to completely change the fluid is by a machine that hooks up in-line and exhanges the fluid(at least this is what iv been told).
