keyless entry: sorry to be repetitive

I just wanted to make sure before I go ahead with a purchase. I looked in my trunk as per a previous post and I have the brown connector for keyless entry. I can just get any old keyless entry system for my 98 GXE and it should work right? I know there are a lot of posts regarding this, but I just wanted to make sure as I'm being paranoid

did you attempt the ingnition trick where you put the key in the ignition 6-7 times in 10 seconds and hazards flash? if they did just bid on a keyless entry remote/fob on ebay. you already have the system. you should be able to get one for about $25-$35.

will have to try that when it is not quite as bright outside...all that happened was that the car beeped at me when I pulled the key in and out. What did you mean by a fob system?

you can see the blinkers flash in the gauge cluster (your turn signals)...they will flash twice immediately after you put the key in those 6-7 times. the remote is also reffered to as a fob. all you need is the remote.

forget to mention that you have to lock the doors behind you and shut them before you put your key in. try that out.

Nope, doesn't work.

I have a 98 5sp maxima w/o sunroof and with the manual trunk/gas tank release on the floor next to the drivers seat.

ahh thats your prob...sorry but i must have mistaken you for another member that had a similar prob. the keyless system is on maximas equipped with the C&C package...power seats, power trunk, sunroof, intermittent wipers, security system...things of that nature. if i were in your situation i would get an aftermarket alarm or keyless entry system instead of getting the nissan parts.

thats seems like it would do the trick. only problem is that since you have a manual truck release it would not configure to a keyless entry system. the manual release is controlled by a cable not an electronic pulse like the power ones. i am not certain but confident that that is the case with the manual releases. you may want to search for that specific topic, see if anyone has had the same issue and been able to get it to work for them. but i am almost certain that you need a power one to link into a keyless entry system.

Well I wouldn't care so much about the trunk release, although I will search for it. Just as long as I can lock/unlock it with the remote is good enough for me.

i would say that system you linked would be a good buy. i am not sure what to expect to pay for a keyless entry system but that one for $50 seems like an acceptable price. keep in mind that if you are not going to install this yourself you will have to have a shop do it, and they might not be as knowledgeable as they might be if they were installed a system they sold themselves.

Well how involved of a process is it to install one of these? I was under the impression that they were fairly "plug and play". Don't they just connect to the brown connector in the back?

you can search to see if you can dig up some instructions, i would assume this kit would come with some sort of instructions. you would have to have knowledge of electric wiring and being able to pull out some of your interior.
