Engine temperature

Hi Everyone,

I just purchased a 1996 Maxima GLE last week, so I am new to this....
I had a question & maybe you guys can help.... After I run my car for about 10-15 min & look at the engine temp guage, the arrow points to the half-way mark between cold & hot and it stays that way even after I drive for 4-5 hrs. My question is... is this normal? Should it be pointing to the half-way mark or should it be slightly towards the cold side? I have checked the radiator & coolant levels & they are fine. The reason I am asking is because I have this 4-cyl Mazda 626 & the arrow is slightly towards the cold side even after I drive it for 4-5 hours.

Thanks,
Suhas

Don't worry. All is well with your coolant temp...and the guage.

The guage sucks by the way. It doesnt acutally show you a relative temp. It only has 3 settings: cold, normal, and hot. It will sit dead in the middle of the guage while the actual coolant temp will vary over 80 degrees...all within the "acceptable" range however.
