Alternator recall
I know I don't own the 4th gen but I just called 1-800-nissan-1 and
there is option 1 it says something about maxima and they have a recall champaign for 97-99 maxima for alternator issue that could cause fire hazard.
I am not sure wether you are aware about this issue, I heard they'll start sending out info on august 2002
call them and verify your vehicle is need this fix
