Guys with VIs: make sure and test your vacuum
Tonight I decided to get a vacuum guage (Mityvac at Autozone) just to make sure I didn't have any vacuum leaks after installing my VI. At idle, I'm pulling a rock steady 22 Hg which is ideal (16-22 Hg is normal). As I gave the car gas to 2500 rpms, the vacuum slowly increased and held steady. With a quick opening on the throttle body, the vacuum dropped quickly which is correct. This give me confidence that my manifold is sealed tightly. For $25 you can't go wrong. The kit even includes a provision to bleed you brakes correctly. You can test a ton of systems on the Maxima with a vacuum guage and pump.
Tonight I will be going to the track. Hopefully I'll see what she can do now. The only problem is it's 93 degrees with 70% humidity or feels like ~104 degrees to the human body. I usually run 15.2-15.3@92mph in this kind of weather.

interesting. While my needle dips when doing a rev of it correctly, I'm only pulling 14-15Hg, and I've removed and re-seled my manifold twice now.
I've tested with 2 dash gauges (Autometer and ISSPRO) and 2 diagnostic gauges.
Can't find any leaks!
Are you testing at idle with it in P or in D?
In P I'm at 17Hg
Grrrr.

Hey dave, is a vacuum guage something you can rent from autozone or another auto parts store?

Sounds like Dave got a mityvac (www.mityvac.com) or equivalent. It has a vacuum guage in line but can also create vacuum for testing and brake bleeding purposes--pretty cool. I would have spent the extra $ to get one had I not had speedbleeders. A generic vacuum guage will run you about $15-20. Usually located in the same section as the multimeters and the compression testers in any auto parts store.
