It would be kinda expensive to mold. You would have to have a sorona kit to use for building the mold. And all the resin and glass for the mold, then materials for the replacement part. If you have a large shop with space for these items and the ability to sell them then I could see doing it. Otherwise it's not really an option for the average joe.

I don't know why people buy fiberglass kits. Do you know what happens when you get a rock chip? At least a nickel sized hole right though the paint. Pretty expensive maintenance painting it yearly. Urethane is the way to go IMO

I don't know what that other guy is talking about, but fiberglass is cheap as s***. And you don't need any mold to make it from. for like 300 bucks you could make a perfect replica, or new design for your car. I did it on my old car, and all i did was ust cardboard to make the basic shape, then did some molding to give it the curves i wanted. That car(a 89 oldsmobile) has since passed, and now i have a 96 max. I wish not to f***up my new baby, so i'm not about to try it, but on the olds, what the hay. if you do a bit of research about fiberglass, I'm sure you can figure out how to mold it. I'm only 17 and i figured it out.

Cardboard is far different than glass cloth and mat. Remember, the request was for a higher quality and cheaper alternative. Not just cheaper. You could make a mold out of wood. But like I said before, the space and tools to construct a good mold, then the materials to build the part don't really add up to savings. Unless you are young enough to have an auto shop or similar "free workshop". Most don't have that luxury.
