I'm about to put a starter in my 97 gxe 5sp. The best choice would be the Clifford Avantguard 4. It has a feature like a turbo-timer where you exit the car while it's on and then arm the car and walk away. After a preset time, the car will shut off. This assures that the car's in neutral and allow you to remote start when you come back.

If you didn't leave the car on and armed the car, the alarm won't remote start. Pretty smart huh?

I'm looking to get an Aladdin 2002 (new ver coming out in December, ~$200, I do my own installation). http://www.velocitymotorsport.com/aladdin_a2002.htm There's no cool lockout feature, but I've been reading and am toying with the idea of going to radio shack, getting some kinda sensor where 1 sensor is placed @ the bottom of the shifter rod and the other sensor on the cat heat shield. the sensors would line up only in neutral, completing the circuit and allowing the car to remote start. Other than that, you'd hafta tap the Neutral wire, which I haven't located yet.

Here's more info on the current Aladdin 2000 model.

If you want this version, it's $175 on www.groupbuycenter.com (vendor is Velocity Motorsport). Jef takes care of sales and installation of security products. He can be found on www.the12volt.com in the forums.

I think the Viper 550 is better. You can remote start it anyway anytime you like to. You can even leave your car running by pressing the two buttons that activate the remote start and close the door and arm it. And if you just arm your alarm and decided when you get back to remote start it, you can. Plus it has an extended range to transmitting meaning you can remote start it from anywhere in your house.(unless you've got a very big house) Plus during summer you can leave your A/C on so when you gat in your can in nice and cozy or during winter, leave your heater on to warm things up.

And for your question, yes it has been done but i advise you to make all the necessary precaution when doing the install.

Neutral wire is easy to find... My remote start works like a champ

Just keep in mind that the 4th gens require you send Ground to the clutch switch instead of power this had me a little screwed up for a while.

Just get the Viper 790xv, it has everything a viper can offer and auto start, with a 1/4 mile pager.
