OMG!! 33 mpg this weekend!

I've read other threads about mpg but my most recent trip is still making me wonder. I filled up my tank @ Hess in Camden, New Jersey and reset the trip odometer. I went up to White Plains, NY for the weekend and went to fill up my tank again at lunch today. The trip said 302 miles and I only had to put in 9.1 gallons. That calculates to 33.1 miles per gallon.

No engine mods, approx 84k miles, and overdue for an oil change. I usually get 23 mpg. It was all highway miles, but that's still unusually high. Just thought I'd comment

Did your gas gauge go all the way up to the "F"?? It's possible that the pump shut off a little early...

also how fast were u going? i think speed plays a role. I bet u were going like 45-55 the whole trip...burns less gas i believe when u stay at lower rpm's and that's probably what u were doing...

I normally get just over 20 MPG in "spirited" commuter traffic in DC. I was excited because on the way home from the WVU game (Morgantown, WV to Herndon, VA) this weekend I got 29. NIIIICE...

.

I was going an average of about 70-75 mph (I covered 130 miles in 2 hrs to get there). Not flooring the hell out of it, but modestly increasing the accelleration. Believe me, I was certainly suprised myself. All highway miles - NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway.

I know I filled the tank up to full, because I went to fill up my tank today and it shut down at 9.1 gallons. I tried to top it off to the nearest dollar to get exact change on my cc, but the pump kept stopping any additional gas to go in.

I got 27mpg one weekend from Santa Barbara CA to Davis CA and that was with the A/C on the entire time with my speed around 80-90 (with a high of 115)....never had it that good since, just happened to be the first weekend I had the car (bought with 76k miles)
