Get a pair of good jack stands! Safest way to go. I use an 8 inch
piece of 2x4 on top of jack stand. I put it right next to where the jack is. Works fine. I use a piece of 2x4 to avoid damage to car under carriage. Been doing this for years.

I'm with you on this, but I would use 4 jackstands. Put the jack under the rear beam and jack up the rear and place two jackstands there.

Next, Move the jack to the front jackpoint and after getting it up in the air place a jackstand there. Repeat on the other side.

Now, you have the whole car in the air to rotate tires.

Always jack the rear up first so that you don't push the weight of the car down on the front jackstands. This can lead to crunching the undercarriage!

Just a quick hint.

You can do it with one jack and a spare tire, but it's a lot of extra work. I did it once, but now I have jack stands ($20 or less at your local parts store, just buy 'em).

Here's the plan:

Jack up one tire, remove, replace with spare tire. Lower car.

Go to next wheel in rotation, remove, replace with previous full-size tire.

Go back to the spare tire-ed corner, remove spare, replace with full-size.

Repeat for the next two tires.

All told, that's 6 jack operations, took me about 30-45 minutes working alone, using the emergency jack.

Later,
Josh
