Catalytic converter replacement

Saw a test pipe on ebay for $60 to replace the converter on my 99 maxima. Auction said you would gain 9 - 18 horsepower.

How much horsepower gain are you guys seeing with this modification?
Is the cat bolted on or will I need a torch to get it off if I decide to do this?
How much louder will the car be? (I have a 1 year old and a 4 year old)

I have an 86 T-type in the garage and it's exhaust drones big time at 70 MPH. Will the Maxima do this if I put the test pipe on?

Is $60 too much for this item?

Think $60 sounds high.

I think most people claim about 5hp, unless you have boost then 10+ maybe possible.
The cat is bolted on, but if you want to spend your money on something you'll actually notice then go with a Y-pipe. I think you can get one from Budgetexhaust for $200 or less.

Also try doing a search, you'll find lots of good info.
