It has a custom metal panel attached to it.

You can get a shop to make them for you. You can get plain one from www.APsignworks.com

You don't have a power trunk release?

Not all maxima's have the power trunk release. You have to have the Security and Convenience package on your car. I found this listing of what is included in the S&C package in an earlier post by Anachronism

GXE Security and Convenience Package-(Requires automatic transmission)
* 8-way power driver's seat
* Remote keyless entry and vehicle security system
* Power trunk release
* Illuminated visor vanity mirrors
* Variant intermittent wipers
* Chrome exhuast finisher

SE Security and Convenience Package- (Requires sunroof)
* 8-way power driver's seat
* Remote keyless entry and vehicle security system
* Integrated HomeLink Transmitter
* Power trunk release
* Illuminated visor vanity mirrors
* Variable intermittent wipers

Well I'm glad I have that. I like the button being right there. The luxuries of maximas are great.

I hate the button being right there. Whenever I carry my PDA in my left pants pocket, it's in the perfect position to push the button and open my trunk, usually when the car is moving. I think down next to the fuel door release is a better place.

In my 97 SE the trunk release is the same lever as the fuel door release and is located on the floor at the front left of the driver seat. Pull the lever up and the trunk pops. Push the lever down and the fuel door opens. Oh yeah, and my car is a stripper, no options.

What is the Integrated HomeLink Transmitter? I have a '96 SE with the convenience package and I know nothing about this.
