Draining power...

My new old 97 Maxima GLE keeps draining its' battery. I just got it 2 weeks ago. Anyone have a problem like this or know what the cause could be?

When the car's off and the stereo's on (BOSE if it helps) and you attempt to do something such as drop all four windows at once or just slide the moonroof back the stereo will either stop playing or cut all the bass and fade to the front right speaker. The same thing also happens when driving while braking.

While sitting in the car listening to the radio with nothing else on for less than 10 minutes the battery would be dead.

I know it's possible to chill in the car without it running and listening to music. Also, the heated seats were off.

I learned of the alternator recall earlier this week and went to Nissan, who installed the new one in 2 hours the next day.
(The battery still died)

Bought a new battery..

Car hasn't died yet, but the lights still flicker and the radio cuts off.

any help?

My alternator belt squeels and it doesnt charge I think I might need a new battery and change the belt any suggestions?

Use some creative thinking here. Nissan Warranties their work. Go back to Nissan and tell them the problem just started happening after they installed the new Alternator. Make them fix it for you.

Should that not work, I'm still looking for some possible reasons.

After going back to Nissan and having them check their alternator the tech. finds out that i have "no diode ripple found" and "system failure" displays on his gauge. The battery only registered 12.51 volts. When it should be between 13-15.

While in the process of replacing the alternator, it's found out that there is a loose wire conection and pin.

Once properly fitted, the battery registered 13.36 volts.

The hard starts have stopped and the music plays without problems so far.

Hopefully thats the end of it, to anyone having the same problem, I'd recommend having that checked out. Tis pretty simple. And was FREE for me.

Translation - The tech that did the job the first time screwed up and forgot to plug something in!

I think you mean Volts, not amps. Car batteries and electrical systems are measured in terms of Voltage. 13-15 amps would not be nearly enough to power a car and its accessories. The amp rating of the alternator should be somewhere around 70amps or so. Anyone know for sure what the alternator is rated at.

Anyway, I'm glad you got your problem fixed. I just wanted to point out that crucial error. Amps and Volts are very different things.
