Keys for my 99 SE-L

So, I got the car with one stinking key, the imobilzer key, I can't open my trunk with it. So I take it that I will have to order keys for it. here's the thing, I don't have the key codes(that little plate with the numbers on it that is basically the DNA of the key. is there any way to get a key to open up my trunk by having the dealer take a look at the imobilizer key and working some majic with that? Because the way I see it, as of now, if by accident my trunk bypass switch is accidentaly engaged from inside the trunk, I will be completely locked out of my trunk, correct? Do you think I have a right to demand that the dealer take care of getting e a key at no cost being that not having a key to open the trunk poses a possible lockout situation? I know I bought the car used and all, but c'mon, how about a full set of keys? Anybody have suggestions?

If the key opens your doors and starts the car I don't see why it doesn't open the trunk.

I think the lock on ur trunk is not the orangenal lock, and for the trunk u don't need emlized key to open, it just a normal lock as the home one. so u can bring u car to any lock please, ask them to get another key for the trunk, or just buy another set of lock for trunk.
also, for copy a key, u don't need the code, just bring one of ur orangenal key and the owner ship to dealer, they can copy it for u. it cost 100 us for one copy, i think.

Well

What you likely have there is a vallet key check and see if it works in the glove box if not thats the vallet key you need to see your local LOCKSMITH .

if you want a key just to open your trunk and do not require it to be programmed i suggest to get a 95-98 key.. it does not have a chip and costs less then the 99 key.

This is true nissan has the same keyway(the way the key is made) for years so any nissan key should work for the trunk

So what your saying is, that I am going to have to get another lock installed in order to have a key function again, b/c the key for the trunk is somewhere in Jersey with the first owner.

a: make you reg key that will open your trunk
b: find that your lock is broke and fix it
c: rekey the lock to match your key
