Maxima Engine vibration. Is that normal????

I like to know from all 99 Maxima Owners. if they feel vibration from there engine when its running(not in drive or first gear) please post here and tell me if you get any vibration.

DEALERSHIP IS TELLING ME IT'S NORMAL FOR MAXIMA ENGINE TO VIBRATE ITS THE BEAST NATURE.

The VQ Engine is one of the smoothest V6's on the market - it should be hard to even tell the car is on if you are stock.

Wow! You must have one sick VQ. My engine is so damn smooth at idle, you can't feel a thing. In neutral, nothing vibrates at all except for the shifter, and ever so slightly.

Any codes? If no codes, it might be fried engine mounts.

Engine mounts wouldn't do much at idle unless you rev the engine.

I think it's something simpler - bad gas, vacuum leak, IAC, plugs, etc, etc...small things that wouldn't necessarily throw a code.

How many miles on your Max?

Me too!

I am having the same problem! My brother purchased the car at around 50,000 miles and it was beyond quiet. I couldn't tell it was on at times. Now I have it and at 65,000, I can definately tell its on. I think it might be the fuel injectors because when I put some fuel injector cleaner it seemed to help alittle, but its back to its old self. I was thinking that it might be the Rochester winter, but I dont know what to think anymore. When I put it in neutral it seems to vibrate less. If anyone can offer any insite it would be greatly appreciated. Btw, is it possible that bad shocks could have anything to do with it?

Shocks have nothing to do with the car when it's not mocing.

I think you both simply need a tuneup.

Thanks for everyone help. I think there is something wrong with my car and dealership doesn’t want to tell me what it is. I thought that the car should be very smooth. but mine isn't. anyone got any ideas. i still have warranty with dealership because i just got it. it was used car. And yes my car is totally stock. no mod to the engine what so ever. my car has 51k on it as of now. i bought it used. but i did major tune up for 42k on the car, which inculed body throdle, and fuel injection cleaner. and engine flush, trany flush. all that.

Engine Vibration

I just bought my 97 Maxima with 105,000 miles on it and the problem I'm having is that it shakes kinda bad when I have stopped at a red light. When the car is moving everything is fine but when I stop that's when the vibration starts. I would then put it in neutral and it will stop shaking but when I put it back in drive the vibration starts again. I really feel the vibration on the steering wheel especially. I have to take my hands off of the wheel just to play it off when I have girls in the car. But as long as I'm moving the car it rides perfect. Any idea on how to solve this problem? Please let me know. Thanks..........

I wouldn't take the car to the dealership, unless you can clearly see a faint halo over their heads. So,

Do the normal maintence. I found replacing the PCV, air filter and fuel filters at around 60k made a noticable difference. That milage corresponding to me finding this website too. Since then, I've replaced these parts on a much more freq'ly. Seriously, change out these and think about replacing the plugs. There's a ton of information on this website to allow you to do this by yourself.

I never would have thought to do anything on my car, but this site gave me the know how to do it.

I had a similar problem and found a bad spark plug wire ( insulator
stripped ) touched engine. After replacing that spark plug wire,
my car doesn't vibrate at idle.
