Those of you that have installed MEVI

Did you use any anti-seize or anything like that? What kind of lubrication did you use for the rod, etc?

I did not use anti-seize and did not lubricate the rod. The rod on mine moved freely with no issue. I know aomeone here had a slightly bent rod that would not open properly.

I would get a new EGR and TB gasket though.

I would put thread-lock on the screws that hold the "flaps" on in the intake runners. Other than that, you don't have to anti-seeze or lubricate anything.

I apply a little grease on the rod(the round part that goes through the manifold not the cut part where the butterfly valve go onto).

I just have two questions for the MEVI:

1: Can you also use a turbo with it?

2: Will the MEVI alone, pass California smog?

thanks guys

The butterfly rod on the VI has a low-friction coating on it that doesn't require any lubricant. I suppose a light (read: LIGHT) coat of lubricant can't hurt. I would shy away from silicone-based lube as it can ruin O2 sensors and you have no guarantee the lube won't get into the engine and out into the exhaust at some point.

FWIW, I didn't lube my rod (uh huh huh) and after ~15K miles, she still works like a charm.

You will have no more problem passing a smog test as you would with the stock intake manifold, as the test conditions are at a low enough rpm that the major changes in airflow won't even be seen (5000+ rpms). Even at higher rpms, I doubt (although don't know for sure) that the increased airflow would alter emissions that significantly. Since the Maxima uses a closed loop control mass airflow-based control system, any changes in airflow are pretty accurately accounted for via a change in injected fuel.
