by mildly modded i mean just intake or less (almost stock)
no doubt thats a very good time tho...ill give credit where its due
but its just easier to compare stock or near stock cars than cars with that many mods.
also a 2.01 60' without slicks

you have 12 lines of mods so its obviously not almost stock.
lets look at it this way, a cat back exhaust is $500, suspension is $600
so that passed your $500 mark already.
weight reduction is obviously free. his weight reduction is responsible for cutting 0.2 seconds off his ET. do that to a 4th gen and it will yield the same result.
ok you know what...i don't think we have the same understanding of mildly modded...so lets just compare stock to stock.
also, just so you know, an org member (theblue) ran a 14.2 with intake/ypipe/cat-back and from what i see, no weight reduction, and street tires. i admire what he did, because he ran his car on the track the same way he would on the street.

cut springs are just asking for trouble...esp at 2.5 inches!
performance is good though no doubt...just seems like it lacks drivability on the streets. bouncing up and down from the cut springs and sweating without the a/c. no doubt he's also missing some seats with all that weight reduction; the passengers would probably feel uncomfortable.
and im sure he got that 2.01 with stock rubber right?
do you have any stock times for me?
neil, i see you're enjoying the entertainment...lol

now if you turn that advantage into a disadvantage (weight reduction on a 3rd gen, its kind of defeating the purpose of the comparison).
btw...you got mail
i need you're paypal info

The 2 motors may have the same displacement, but only a few parts interchange. They are completely different motors. The 4th gen VQ is a much more refined motor. As far as one gen being faster than the other, all you can really go by is tests from Motor Trend or other such mags, because their tests are done in a controlled manner. Every car is tested almost exactly the same way. But, they usually only test one car instead of average the results of several.
Environmental conditions and stock tires can make their numbers vary.
Of course, the true test for the owner is on the street, side by side. The one who wins, wins, no matter what he is driving.

He did it with weight reduction. He removed a seat or 2.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking trash on either of these two very nice guys, their sweet 3rd gens, nor am I disgracing the VE in any way. I'm just pointing out these motors aren't the topend "freaks" you say they are. A car that has good topend will show it on the track. The modded 5 speed VEs on average are rarely breaking 94mph in the 1/4 mile. Most modded 5 speed VQs (without MEVIs) are usually 95mph. The MEVI/JWT VQs are now pushing nearly 100mph. Where's this VE topend again?

This top end is there Dave. Just because a couple of owners ran the track and it didnt show much, on day to day you can tell.
Also, my whole point is, tell your VQ buddy's that the VQ will not "MURDER" a VE.
Tell them...Tell them...
