Nasty Smell when accelerating

I don't know whats going on with my max, but it has a smell very simmilar to when you go into the monkey house at the zoo Basically, a smell of stale urine, a vile stench. The smell comes into the cabin even when the A/c heating sytem is off. It only shows up after a press of the gas pedal, and it does not always happen. I don;t knwo what the hell it is. It's like something is old perhaps some fluid or another needs to be changed. Engine flush? What does it need? The smell is embarrassing. Only my girlfriend and I ride in the car, but still, I don't need the smell when I have guests in the car. WEhat gives? Thanks everyone for your help.

Thanks guys for your rplies. Yes, my car is stock. Just a drop in K and N filter- THATS ALL. I have also sprayed Lysol into the intake vents under the hood for the A/C and blasted the vents good with the A/C running ful blast. The smell is still there. In fact, I dont htink it has anything to do with the A/C. Being that the air that comes out of the A/C from start up is fresh to begin with. This is a very strange problem

i seem to recall a case where there was a dead mouse in this guys heater core, he also had a similar rotten stench. he had to disassemble everything and replace the heater core unit.

hope this helps your quandary.

I had a '91 240SX that stank when I accelerated...I am 99.9% sure it was the catalytic converter going bad...it had 100K miles on it when I sold it. I think the smell of the cat going bad varies from car to car and it could quite possibly be the worst smell that can eminate from a car...

when i took my car to my dads dealership to get my max checked out for the rotten eggs smell he said it was either the CC or it was the gas.

Nissan actually issued a bulliten to inform people who come in that canadian gas makes you car smell like rotten eggs

I know what you are talking about. I get the same smell at times from my car......not always though. Seems like its more when the engine is hot.

Do you have leather? Almost seems like the leather is giving off the odor........
