Loose Battery Terminal Clamp

The clamp on the negative side of my battery is so loose that I'm able to easily slide it off the battery terminal, even though the nut the can't be tightened any further. Any suggestions on how I can make the clamp any tighter around the battery terminal? I replaced the original battery in the fall of 2001 with a Sears Die Hard Gold Series 70. The loose connection prevents the car from starting occasionally, especially after the car has warmed up from driving.

Funny, I replaced my original battery with a Diehard Silver in the fall of 2001 and just the other day I started experiancing the same thing..a loose cable on the negative post...Just change the clamp is all you can do...

Yes, its the proper size. The hold down clamp on the positive terminal is nice and snug.

Are you suggesting a new terminal on the battery or replacing the hold down clamp and wire?

replacing the hold down clamp and wire...although, I don't think
the wire needs to be replaced...I had to change mine because the
existing clamp broke...

The metal in the clamps is very soft, and over time, they stretch
a little...I think this is your problem...exchange the clamp, and
you should be OK.

Thanks for the advice Flo. I agree it sounds like the hold down clamp got stretched out. I get another one at Pep Boys.
