Re: Quieter Intake?
First off, turn off the caps lock.
You can "swiss cheese" the bottom porton of your stock airbox and replace the stock filter with a K&N panel filter.

so far i only have the hai set up on my cai(no saw) the only thing you can hear when the car is idleing is a small like hiss(its cool). my intake really dosent make any noticable noise until around 3k rpms.
just tell your parents it will improve your gas milage. i was getting 26-27mpg highway and with my y and intake im getting 30mpg easily, even with some screwing around. today im driving back home to nashville from st louis and i hope to get 30+ with my new fuel filter and now using premium gas.
good luck

But an air intake won't make any noticable noise when the car is idling or below 2500-3000rmps.
yep, my 90 maxima ran for 117,000 miles on unleaded before needing fuel injectors, no other problems. i make 6.50 an hour at subway so buying premium gas is a real ordeal for me. but i love my car
put any intake in and your parents will notice... it doesnt matter if its at 1k or 2k as soon as you step on it your parents will hear it. like acclerating out of a corner, your parents will notice the noise.
only thing I can think of is unplug the intake resonator below the battery and keep the stock box
