you can get them at:
http://www.infinitiwholesaleparts.com/en_US/
or
www.courtesyparts.com (say you're a maxima.org member to get discount)

ps. I got the circuit board today (for the manumatic) but
the drill holes were a little small for some components...
argh, re-layout and more waiting... oh well...

Like in the newer cars where you can select
"full auto" mode (which we already have) and
"manual mode" where you can row through the
gears yourself.
Most newer cars have them now but it normally
works through the gear shifter.
I'm adding this capability to 95-99 maximas
but you row through the gear with buttons on
your steering wheel (I'll explain in detail
later).
Here's a picture of the remote LED display:
Here's a picture of the board I built. I'm redoing
it because of drill hole size problems and 1 bug.
When it's done, the mod should be easy. Hook up ~10 wires
and put the display somewhere easy (putting in the cluster
is a pain but I wanted it there)...

cheap is good
Not sure on the price since I haven't contacted any companies
to produce in quantity. Under 300 should be doable.
I should have enough parts to make a few by hand. After those
are sold and installed, I'll see if there's enough demand to
warrant going any further.
Can't wait... It'll take 3 weeks to get the Rev 2 board.

Wow. That is most impressive. I'd also be interested as well. You people don't know how bad I want to shift in my auto; my hand is always resting on the shift *** like it's a manual. These 5speeders on here keep tempting us to get conversions.

did u do this? http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?threadid=69043

more details
I'm glad other people are interested. I mainly did this
for myself and I spent a lot of time on the design. The main
criterias were:
---
SAFETY:
1. If the board loses power or is disconnected, your car's auto
mode still works unchanged.
2. MMode is only available in "D" (you can toggle it on or off
at the steering wheel). If you shift out of "D", then MMode is
automatically turned off and disabled.
3. If you turn on Cruise control, MMode is automatically turned off and disabled.
4. Shifting to a lower gear than your speed/engine allows will
result in a delayed shift, rather than your tranny dropping to the
ground (gears include 1,2,3,4).
---
KISS (keep it simple stupid):
5. Minimize the number of wires needed to installed and places
where you need to install them. Basically, you splice/highjack:
- 5 wires in the TCM connector (accessible behind the cigarette tray)
- 3 wires in the ASCD connector (out in the open, near your right knee)
- and finally, 12v and ground (which I take from the cigarette lighter)
---
STOCK LOOK (no radio shack switches poking out everywere)
6. Reuses existing cruise control buttons when in "D" and when cruise
is OFF. Middle button toggles MMode on/off. Top button goes up in
gear and bottom button goes down in gear. When cruise is on, buttons
act as normal cruise control buttons (MMode is automatically turned off
and disabled when cruise control is on).
7. The remote LED display is optional. You don't have to have it.
If you want it, you can place it anywhere. Putting it in the instrument
cluster is the most stock looking but quick frankly, that was the hardest
part of the install.
---
Basically, MMode shifts the gear selector and controls OD for you.
No more accidental shifts into neutral. No more looking at the gear
selector to see where it is. No more micromanaging of "OD Off" button.
Here's an example use:
- start car
- select "D" with existing gear selector
- drive somewhere
- press middle button to turn MMode on (Remote LED turns on)
- press down, up, down, down, up, up, etc...
- press middle button again to turn MMode off (Remote LED turns off)
Remember, changing the gear selector out of "D" or turning on Cruise
will turn off and disable MMode.
I already have a prototype working with the car. When the rev 2 board
shows up, I'll solder the chips, put it in the box (shown below) and
plug it into the car (already wired). I'll probably be in MMode all
day except when in traffic.
This is just a generic box I bought at a local store. The blue
connector is for the optional remote led display. The orange
connector contains all the control wires. The white connector
has the power and ground. The red led is power and the green is mmode on (not really needed since I'll put the box either under
the center console above the airbag controllor box or under the seat.

thanks
Thanks for the encouragement and compliments guys (and gals).
I get a lot of info out of the the org too. By the way, does
any have a 95-96 service manual in electronic form? I'd like
to compare wires with my 99 service manual.
thanks,
rob

Glad to see a fellow engineer putting his skill into the max! I thought about doing something like this a while back, but decided that without a vb-mod, it wouldn't be so hot. Then I got distracted by other projects. Anyway, nice work man. Also, no DRC errors on something connected to my tranny

This is a mod that I would love to have for several reasons BEYOND the "fun" factor. I like a mod that can be removed and sold when the car is sold, I like truly "custom" mods, and I like the fact that it was developed by and for a maxima enthusiast.
So when will you start taking deposits on these?
You should ask a moderator to split this thread into one of its own so that more people can read about it and you can generate more interest. How many will you be making in the first (home-made) batch?

I would like to floor the car at 3000rpm without it going into first then shifting into 2nd a second later I want to avoid that kind of gear hunting.
I know I won't run 15.5 starting in third...
#32
It sounds to me like he's just activating the gear selection by triggering the contacts that would be made by the regular auto shift lever. This means that everything that applies while "auto shifting" (ie, low->2nd->od off->od on) would apply to this mod. IE, if you had it in 3rd and stepped on it, there would be no way to keep it from downshifting for you. That being said, most true manumatics act the same way.. they will take over for you at the fringes of the gears.
This needs to be moved out of this thread.

hakk97se is correct
For example, it allows me to stay in 2nd at 3000 rpm
in case the guy next to me might go or in preparation
for a fun turn without having the car go to a higher
gear spoiling the fun.
Now, if you stomp on the brakes and come to a halt, it
will downshift to 1st. Basically, it won't go higher
than you want.
I'm sure different people will want different behaviour
but this is the design I ended with (safe, simple, and does
what I wanted).

rob
