Aftermarket seats - Help!
Ok so i got 2 new aftermarket racing seats for my 98. I have the leather with the power seats and side airbags. What precautions should be made in taking out the factory seats? Also, my seats came with sliders, but no brackets. The stock power rails are mounted 17" apart, and my aftermarket seats bolt up 16" apart. anyone had a similar problem? Is there a bracket I can fabricate to make the seats fit? thanks

getting rid of the leather for cloth racing seats? other then maybe losing 50lbs tops which = no increase in the 1/4. why do it. i'v only sat in a few racing seats and while they do hug more then the stock leather ones might....i find them uncomfortable and hard. any pics of the seats your getting? how much did they cost you? in my opinion racing seats belong in racing cars. but if you dig em then throw em in. i just don't understand them.

ok, buddy, u say racing seats in a max are Gay, but u have altezza tail lights. a mod which costs almost as much as my seats, and those do nothing, and nothing says gay more than a pair of altezzas, hey lets make a webpage full of pics of stuff u dont have. get a life buddy, just cuz ppl are out there doing things doesnt make the man. and i sure as hell could care less about if u think the seats are rice, cuz nothing says rice more than altezzas and white light bulbs.

Why are you asking him "why do it"? He already did it. Deal with it. He just wants to know to put them in. And as far as racing seats in an import economy car, you obviously haven't ridden inside one with suspension work. Then you'd see the need for seats with more lateral support. Sorry Moreau, I can't help you, but I just had to put this flamer in line.

As far as the brackets go, you can have a set machined for you at a metal shop or machine shop. Just make sure you use good quality metal... I've seen thick angle iron used because it's pre-bent, can be cut to any length, and can be drilled out to match the mounting holes in your car (assuming they are spaced correctly... you may need to do some drilling or welding to attach them to your floorpan). Of course, if you go this route and don't use sliders (assuming your seat came with them), then your seat will pretty much be stuck in that position unless you drill a series of holes for adjustment.

I put R-1 racing sports in my car but it was a nightmare i have advice for people if it doesnt have direct bolt in brackets dont buy the seat. If he bought adjustable seats he will not save that much ,mine with custom brackets weigh about 40lbs and my stock bolt locations were destroyed my seats suck . When i get some time i will have some stock seats out of a del sol installed and throw my seats in the trash.

yeah it has the sliders with the seat, but the stock power rails are mounted 17 inches apart and the seats is 16" apart. so my guess was the easiest way would be to make a bracket or adapter to allow the rails to be mounted to the stock rail mounts, therefore, i would not need to buy brackets or permanently change anything on the car itself. does this sound like it is possible?

You're thinking of making two 1/2 inch thick plates that you can mount to the seat rails? That would probably work, that way you won't be drilling or welding to your car. Everything else should work, sliders, etc... all you would have to do is take up that extra inch of space.
