Can't get trans-axel back into tranny...Help
Replaced the drivers side tras-axel seal, now I can't get the tras-axel back into the tranny. It goes in about half way then won't budge. I've been messing with it for over an hour.
Is there some trick to this???
also is the seal supposed to sit flush or not?
Thanks in advance.

The seal should NOT sit flush with the tranny...On our trannies there is is no seal stopper so the seal goes in and in till you stop it...Let it sit alittle out from the tranny...
Axle- try the hammer trick, instead of a hammer, use a rubber dowal so you dont ruin the end

Now I am confused. I talked to an old org. member on the phone and he said that Nissan labeld their parts wrong and the left seal is for the right and the right is for the left. But I did not get mine from the dealership, and they old seal and the new one look exactly alike.
Screw this, I am going to mess with it tomorrow.

So I get up early and finally get the drive axel back in. Start filling the tranny with fluid and sure enough it starts leaking again. Upon furthur inspection the seal is not seated evenly and is inset into the trans.
I'm like WTF, I did not put the seal in like that.
So I am in the midst of taking everything apart again.
Do you think I will be able to use the seal again, or will I have to get a new one?

Seal, drive-axel, and MT fluid are in and all is well.
I totally know what I did wrong. This is a very simple repair that I made difficult.

just a guess....
tapped in the oil seal too far...and not straight.
attempted to slide axle in and it got jammed since it's not in right.
while pulling axle back out it tore the spring on the seal and the end of that story. reinstalled new seal to the correct spot.

So I eventually removed the whole thing. After that it took me a matter of minutes to do the job.
But that's not everything. It is leaking again
The seal is not the problem. It's my bearings. I have been limping along for the last 6 months with shot bearings. I think I am at the end of the line with this tranny. Either a rebuild or a new tranny will have to go in soon.
My current problem is that I am in Oklahoma and have to make the drive back to Chicago with this tranny leaking like a sive. I'll have to stop a couple times to refill it. It's leaking pretty bad.
I don't want to get it fixed in Oklahoma in case I have any problems down the road.
It's my own fault for letting it get this bad.
