Hi,
I have a 97 maxima gle with bose speakers but it does not come with the Bose head unit. I comes with the original maxima casette head unit. It does not have any sound even when the volume is at the maximum level. I suspect that the person who sold me the car had swapped it out. Can I put a aftermarket stereo in it or do I have to put back a original Bose headunit? PLEASE HELP!!!

you either have to get a bose hu or put in an aftermarket hu....others will say that you need an adapter to get sound with aftermarket hu but i had aftermarket hu with bose for a long time and it works fine.

I read that on the net too. They said the speaker will distort but that's not a problem. So, do I get a connector harness for a regular headunit or one for a premium sound system? Do I have to rewire everything if I change all four speakers?

just go to best buy and buy wiring harness and new hu, after splicing wires pull old hu and plug new one in and you are ready to go. one more thing. on your new hu, i believe that you have to manually ground it....it's been a long time but i think i remember.

i'd say get a new aftermarket HU or find a really new bose HU. My 96 bose HU is crapping out on me... cd-player sounds ****ty until it has been "warmed up" for 2-3 minutes or something before it starts playing clear. Either way, i'm hopin it dies completely so i'd have a good excuse to upgrade.

hmmm before u do any of that, make sure u check to see that u have a the bose wiring harnesses behind the unit, if there is no wiring, or something is wrong, then ur in trouble, also im sure if u really wanted to, u could get the bose speakers working with this head unit... just get the speakers power and ground and signal through the head unit and u would be alright..... but thats just me talking through my bum lol so see what u can do make sure before u go buy something for 300 400 dollars
