Sorry guys.. confused!!! Midpipe? Intake?

So are you saying to not even bother with a Cold air intake or an intake at all. Just leave it all stock as far as filter and everything.. OR is the midpipe higher up on the intake... So lets say i buy one of the Cold air intakes from ebay that is $50-70... Are you all saying that is actually going to hurt my PULL... That is what it sounds like but i am a bit confused on the midpipe to intake.. Sorry guys im new with max's.. used to running hondas.... so glad im converted... Much nicer vehicles..

He is saying that all intake setups have their upsides and their downsides. The upside of one may be a drastic downside to another, while the downside of that first intake would be a drastic upside to the second. So, in actuality it is all based on where you want the upside to be, low range, high range, or in the middle.

There's been exhaustive discussions on this subject. I would suggest reading this thread: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....3&page=1&pp=30 . This has all the questions answered. I read all 160+ posts because I really want to get to the bottom of it. Also, here's a supplemental thread: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....95#post2623295 .

Read the entire threads and your curiousity will be satisfied.

I think the hacked air box mod is a good mod for everyday driving. However, it doesn't do much for you at the track. Last time I went to the track, best I could do in my '96 auto w/ypipe, hacked air box, vb, and catback was a 15.6 Compared that to when I had the same mod only difference was instead of the hacked stock air box I had the PR CAI. Best run was a 15.4 So that should tell you something. Still, the hacked air box is a great mod because it cost me absolutely nothing.

Very true, it depends on the application. All performance mods can enhance one aspect of engine performance but hurt another. CAI seems to enhance low end pull does improving your launches at the track. In the freeways though, some have observed that CAI causes the engine to run out of breath does a noticed decrease in high end pull.
