Modifying stock intake
#3
Ok, i did some research on the OSCAI but wat would happen if I just disconnected the pipe that goes to the silencer? Would this cause the intake to be louder? Does the GAB mod cause the intake to be louder?
Also if anyone has a good set of GAB instuctions for a 99 that would be greatly appreciated.

I've done that mod, here's what you do.
The most restrictive part of the intake is the snorkle section (scoup). It's a very narrow opening. The down pipe you see just after it runs to a box under the battery. That box, some say is to help keep the intake quiet. It's just a sealed box. You can open up the back side of it to provide a secondary source for air for your intake. Remove it from the car by taking out the scoup section first. Then find the 10mm bolt that holds it in place. It twards the front. The box sits on 2 rubber bushings. Just pull is out from under the battery and work it out from the engine compartment. Next take a big drill bit and drill a few holes in the back side of the box. By back side, I mean the side that faces the inner fender wall. It's far enough away from everything to draw a bit of cooler air. Once you finish making swiss cheese out of it, clean it up and put it back in place.
You can't hear any additional noise from your intake with this mod. I think the dyno butt might be able to feel more pull in the upper RPM range because of the additinal air source.
This is a cheap effective way to get more air into your stock intake system without anybody every knowing anything was ever done to the car.

Actually, I would like a CAI sounding mod. That is wat I was going for. So if I just take out the down pipe connecting to the silencer box, seal up the whole, would achieve this?

If you want the stock intake to sound loud, you can take the four clamps on the airbox and unlatch them and crack open the box by propping it with the clamps. It will sound loud, but I dont recommend it for a long term intake. Hope this helps.

wont this allow air that is suppose to be giong into the engine escape?
and i dont understand why removing the down pipe to the intake silencer and plugging the whole wouldnt make it louder, i mean there wouldnt be a silencer!
has this mod ever been done? (the one descibed above)

Unless you buy something like an Injen intake, there really isn't anything you can do to the intake that you will actually FEEL. Sometimes, people with the intake kits confuse what they HEAR as extra power when really it is just sound.

yes and this may sound ricy but that is what I am concerned about...THE SOUND, I want to make it louder.
so let me go back to my other q:

Im not sure about removing the down pipe... do it and let us know.
I just did a poormans HAI, do a search on it for instructions. actually vqpower.com has it in the "how to" section. anways its deep and loud above 3k RPM's. not sure if it afects performance, doubt it.
