Geezers? I'm not that much older than you!
Last night I removed my entire intake system and was inspecting the rear engine mount. I noticed that I could reach in below the IACC and reach around to the back of the engine while standing by the driver's sie fender. I could feel around the rear manifold fairly easy. The heat shield of the manifold gets in the way, but quite a few of the manifold nuts are accessable from this side of the engine if the heat shield is removed. The heatshield is attached to the manifold by two bolts thatare torqued to ~5 ft/lb. Chances are they will just snap off when you try to loosen then due to they're tiny size and extreme heat they face. Good news is if they break, the heat shield will simply slide off. The EGR pipe gets in the way and would have to be removed from the manifold too. I think if you removed the upper intake manifold, most everything should be fairly accessable assuming you're willing to spend 2 hours yanking the manifold and waiting a solid night to let the engine completely cool.
Torque specs for the manifold bolts are 28-32 ft/lbs

do you have baselines yet, exact pricing (i know you said below 499, but still) I know ported and polished heads don't do much, but if one has a 3 inch system with headers that match, what will the perf. gains be? Any help would be appreciated

It will take a lot more force than that to get the bolts off. They're on there real good from the factory. I'd guess 50-70ft-lb range.

Thanks Dave for the advice. We are taking it to www.AvalonRacing.com and hopefully they know what they are doing!

having met and talked to nashua i think you guys really need to back off. he is really doing something great and its all for free. it is hard to find a shop that wants to add a threaded bung, that has to be exactly in the correct place, into stainless steel. i know, i'v called around. the second a shop gets found that will do the bung bingo its golden. oh and i'll be there at the dyno run!

Oh brother.... notice the "hehe" or the "wall smilie" hence it's not a legitimate b!tching... otherwise i would have seriously complained. But yeah, so my mistake... it's one of those things where you have a blast posting in OT so the humor and sarcasm sticks and makes its way onto the regular forums.
so.... to edit my post:

HA!J/K!
On a serious note though, I applaud your efforts on something that is very realistic and reasonable. I'll even round up West coast people for you if the dynos come in good. Many 4th gen owners I run into ask me if i know where they make headers, so soon i'll have something to tell them.
Hey mike...i thought i'd post this cuz its too late to call you but i'm available after 130tomorrow afternoon so we can run up to manchester and hav the guys look at it. Ill call you tomorrow when i get out of my work. Thanks mike

Maybe i will put them on my built motor.
