99 Maxima Se - engine start problem

I have a 99 Maxima SE with 140,000 miles on it. For a while, I've been having this problem when i start my car. It happens more when it's cold. I would start the car and it would start but it makes a sound as if i still have the key turned in the ignition. It makes a squelch sound for a half a second or so. I'm not sure if this is a big problem or not but I don't want to take a chance. If anyone knows what this problem is and how it can be fixed, help me out please. thanks

Check your belts. From the sounds of it, it is the typical Chrysler problem. But I have never heard of it in Maximas.

Happens all the time to my current car and my old 97 when the belt tension gets a little too loose.

Just tighten 'em!

Your starter needs to be regreased. The bendix gear is staying out to long. It's a common problem with older and high mileage cars. Go to www.motorvate.ca and look under starter fix to see how to fix this yourself.

Yep. I had the same symptoms a year ago. Regrease or replace.
