I was wondering, if I were to upgrade my headlight bulbs to those Hyper White or Xenon-esque Blue Super White bulbs that are out there on Ebay, would I need to upgrade the wire harness?

They say these bulbs run at around 4500K, would this be enough to melt the existing harness and possibly the housing of the lamps?

Thanks

1) Do a search.

2) Anything above stock wattage... get a harness. Better safe than sorry. Try looking into some Sylvania Cool Blues or Philips Blue Visions. Whiter than stock, same wattage, no blue.

3) Xenon-esque Blue Super White bulbs on Ebay... don't believe the hype. I got some. Yeah, real cool when the weather's dry. Then when the rain starts coming down, can't see crap and I felt like I was going to drive into the wall everytime I got onto the highway.

4) Now I got Philips BV and can see much better.

5) Do a search.

Yes, upgrade if you want higher wattage. I made the mistake of not doing it and I just replaced my headlight socket today (bulb melted it). Easy and inexpensive job but it still required me to take the time and do it.

I would recommend that if you really want the superwhite look, get a different bulb for your fogs so you can see in the rain (cleI30's complaint which I agree).

Do not! and i'll say it again man, DO NOT get over wattage bulbs without getting the harness upgrade. All your doing is asking for trouble. From my own experience i did this exact thing and within a month my harness looked like someone had shot lighter with a can of hairspray in it! Now I have the Apc upgrade harness which you can purchase at Jegs (http://www.jegs.com) type in APC headlight upgrade harness where it says search by word and choose the 9004 kit. I'm running some xenon plasma hiper white bulbs(high wattage). These bulbs run at 85/80w but simulate a bulb that's 130/110w and has a nice blueish tint to them, almost as bright as my sister's headlights on her 2001 acura 3.2. You can get the hiper's from pak9 racing... here's the link to the bulbs: http://store.pak9racing.com/merchant...tid=126&step=4

Hope this helps.

I have the hyper industies bulbs and just love them. I have not bought the wiring harness yet. I have run them for 5 hours straight without problems but it was very cold out. I am getting the harness soon. Better to be safe than sorry. The light that comes off of them is awesome.....no need to even have fogs. Just want to have the corner lights the same color....

Uh

He already said that he did a search on it and found multiple answers of different degrees. I did the same thing when I got mine, and because I figured "hey SOME people said it was alright 6 months ago", I'm stuck with harnesses that look like someone blowtorched em. Quit trolling the newbies =P

If you want to upgrade the lights, get Phillips Blue Vision, I just got these, and they're great. Much better than stock.

Yeah, he said that, and if he read all the posts he'd get to the one that says "you'll have working wires for like 6 mo, then they'll fry, better not risk it" Those others were from people who just did it.

We can repeat it here, and again for the next one, and then again....

Why don't you go out in the street and play now, Ereet, you idiot. :^P~~~

Because,

I'm at work with nothing better to do then read worthless trolls like this aimed at new users. It seems that every single time I read one of your posts, it's either a flame, or a complaint about how using the search engine is gods gift to this forum.

You are going to get questions repeating these things NO MATTER WHAT. Why? Because cars change yearly. Our cars change twice a decade. This doesn't give us a lot of stuff to talk about. Deal with it, stepping on someone because of their mistake isn't a good way to go around making yourself feel better. Keep yourself doing useful things that are within your mental capacity. Like encouraging maxima.org users to pay $175 US for red/clear rear tail lights. *smirk*

Ereets got his head up his

This is exatally what my post said:

EBAY
FWIW I found some taillights on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cg...item=558301440

It starts at 175.00, and he says he's the only one that makes em and sells em to the public.

Seemed interesting. I found this looking for cheap clear bumper lights for my '96.

This is the link to it: (you're too d___ lazy to go there, I know)

Jack, lets not call others names This is just an honest post started by a person who had a question about headlights. We are here to answer them in a friendly fashion.

Thanks guys

Sorry about the repeat question

I was just wondering what the "definitive answer" was on the upgraded bulbs

And I think you guys have it.

Sorry if I caused any trouble here.

I was a newbie once too...

...and I READ every freekin' post on maxima.org before I POSTED one thing. *I* didn't make everyone have to re-re-re-rehash an old subject just cause I'm too lazy to look for it. Seems *I'm* supposed to expect newbies to not look when I did. huh? Anyone here ever hear of "netiquette"? Can everyone here help prep the next newbie for the next time they ask for altezzas and tell them there are none, and how we said that before and how we cover this over and over and how ugly they are and blah blah blah.....

How bout this time next week we ALL get together and we do it again? ok? I'll flame the inevitable stupid "wheres the altezzas" newbie post, Ereet can tell another lie about me, and tell us they are ugly again, and you can tell me again to take it easy. I'll get the message then...

Jack
