very big problem...

ok guys, 96 maxima 145,000miles, i had error codes for knock sensor and for coolant temp sensor, I just changed the KS today and right after I cleared the error codes I start it up and it idles very low about 400rpm, if I rev it up a little it hesitates, and then dips very low, and if at this low point I open up the throttle to bump it back up, I hear a knock from the engine which sounds like bad pinging. But above 1000 rpm its fine when I drive it but if I let off the gas it goes to about 200rpm or stalls and takes a long time to restart (10-20 seconds) and that is working the gas pedal a little which seems to help it start. I drove it a few miles and so far no CEL yet. I have had this stalling problem before I changed the knock sensor but it seemed to come and go, now I can't get it to even run right for a little bit....I am stumped so if anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them. thanks guys.

get your throttle body cleaned. My car used to stall at a redlight quite often, I got a tune up a few months back and haven't had a problem since....

pinging - change ur gas ? I was getting some pinging but changed gas stations and haven't noticed anything now.

You should have replaced the Engine Coolant Temp sensor FIRST.

Sometimes, other codes appear as a reaction to other problems, in this case the Engine Coolant Temp caused the code for the KS.

Once upon a time, I also had this problem, and the hesitation and stalling, as well as the long starts are all symptoms and signs of the ECTS.

Get that replaced, DIY not hard doesn't take long.

Good Luck.

What did you do with the coolant temp sensor problem? Is your intake stuff nice and tight so there is no air leak?

Make sure you have all your connector things tightly plugged in. I accidently didn't push in the MAF sensor connector in the all way before and I had low end lag. Now when I sprayed some more TB cleaner into the TB yesterday, I plugged it back in tightly and now my low end is back

This describes exactly the problem I was having a few months ago. I decided to change the coolant temp sensor first b/c it cost less than $20 and is easy to change. Once I changed it, everthing was back to normal. Check engine light is gone, and there is no stalling. Good luck.
