everybody with 5sp diff. bearing problems
hey all,
so now that i'm forking over a grand for my tranny rebuild, i suggest that everybody that had failed differential bearings on their 5sp and got hosed like me, go to the NHTSA and file a complaint
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/
it's been said before, and i'll say it again, it blows that our trannys failed due to improper manufacturing. i know there are more than a couple of us that had to suck it up and rebuild or buy used. so speak up! stand and be recognized! make your voice heard! etc, etc, yadda, yadda, yadda.

my 5 spd is fine.....158,000+ miles and no problem.
Of course......I just dont sit there and do burnouts in first and then redline it in every gear everywhere i go.
and taking off the e-brake....that just saves your car more abuse.........
on a serious note.....how would i even know if it was going out. I have no problems as of now, but would like to know the warning signs........

I question going to the NHTSA though, as I've never heard of this being a life threatening safety issue, which the NHTSA specializes in dealing with. Usually, the trans dies a long, slow, noisy, leaky death that doesn't cause total loss of control of the vehicle and potential harm to passengers and others on the road. Find the right consumer advocacy group that can help and I'll sign the petition too.

Have all you guys owned the cars from them being brand new. The reason I ask is that 220K seems like a lot of miles before it to start happening. Most people were having this issue around 60K. I know it could probably happen anytime though, but 220K seems like quite a bit before it to go out.
