Airbags in the seats

Airbags in the seats
I wanted to ask everyone in this forum this question. I asked it in the group deal forum and got the usual 'I've never heard of that'. I'm thinking about replacing the leather in my 98 GLE. I want to know how to handle the airbags. Every leather place says "what, airbags in the seats, never heard of that". Am I crazy?! Unless I'm wrong, in 1998 side impact airbags were an option on GLE's. They were standard in 1999 for all models of Maxima. When I look at the sides of my front seats there is a plastic cover in part of the seat that is marked with 'SRS'. Could someone please validate the fact that there is an airbag in the seat, or tell me to put on my dunce cap and stop bothering the seat companies about it. ADT1 with the leather group deal pricing said he would check on it. Leatherseats.com didn't have a clue either.

I thought SRS stood for Superior Racing Setup. Oh well....
LOL
If it says SRS.....it is more than likely SRS..... Just call a dealer ship. Takes like 5 min. They should either ask for your VIN #, or say, yes, it was an option, and you have it from what you describe.....

You have side impact air bags on your car.
What is the product date of your car? I bet it was v-e-r-y- close to 1999 and you basically got lucky and wound up with them. Order leather covers for the 1999 model and you should be fine.

Thanks guys
LastBoyScout, you're right, I always tell other people to call the dealership, should have in the first place. I don't know why I didn't, I usually do call them first, but I did in between my first post and this post.
Has anyone done any seat work on a 99 or 98 with airbags? The service guy I spoke with at the dealership said I should be able to pull the airbag out enough to tuck the leather in behind it. It would be nice to hear a success story from someone and what they did.
Thanks again
