Wheel bearing ???

Wheel bearing ???

Ok basically i took my car to a mechanic once cause i had a warbling sound coming from my drivers side front wheel...turned out the splines on my drive shaft were stripped so i got a new drive shaft brought it back to the same mechanic who said that was the problem, he puts it in and low and behold my wheels are still wobbly.... His boss checks it out and tells me right off that i have a bad wheel bearing he says the part is $169.99 and that i have to pay to get it machined into wherever it goes + labor. Ok So my questions are, first off where the hell is the wheel bearing? i've taken apart my brakes calipers and drive shafts before and i have no clue where or what it is... Secondly i was wondering if i could just replace the whole part off a junked maxima, if its on back of the wheel hub or something cause those repairs just seem to expensive for something that simple. What do you guys think? Is it worth looking for the whole part to replace, and if so what part is it? Thanx ahead of time...

www.motorvate.com has a complete guide to changing the front wheel bearings. I am in need of a new one as well, just haven't gone to buy one and install it. I would imagine buying the whole hub from a junkyard would work if you wanted to do that...

How does a drive shaft get stripped of its splines? You running a 300 shot of nitrous? Did you actually see the drive shaft?

oh yeah the driveshaft was completely stripped and no its a 250 shot...j/k naw i did an engine swap and that lug was hard as crap to tighten, i guess the nut had missalined threads and by me torquing it on i stripped them.... Still got my core charge back from pepboys though.. =) Thanx for the info didn't know he had a write up about that on motovate... i'll check it out i knew there was a cheap way to do it, theres a cheap way to do everything =)....

a wheel bearing costs $40 also you might s well get a new axle if the cv boots are ripped...

now wheel bearing is 40 to 60 bucks but he might have meant the wheel hub which is about 160 with the little attachement and it's easy f u have a torque wrench for the rotor nut

yeah....get thos changed as soon as possible. I had to have my wheel bearings replaced because of a bad front axle..... anyway, i go the money back on the axle, and a new one to boot. If i had gone and had the axle replaced when it first went bad, instead of being broke, then i would have gotten the swap for free + money back.

moral of the story.......dont wait on fixing the important things, cause they only make things worse.
