Car won't start...makes clicking sounds

I've been having trouble with my ignition system lately. I've recently replaced the alternator and battery and that solved my problem for a few months but this morning I tried to start the car and nothing happened. Everytime I turned the key, all I heard was a clicking sound and the car wouldn't turn over. What could it be? Spark plugs?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Also, I'm sure its not the battery because I could still turn on the lights and radio.

Do the accesories like lights and wipers come on? If not, check if the battery terminals make good contact. remove both, clean, and reinstall.

I'll try cleaning the connection on my battery terminals. I replaced my spark plugs about 60k miles ago. Maybe I'll replace them again.

Also, I'd like to add that the last few days, my car was really struggling a lot to start but eventually it would. Now it won't even try to start.

Some alternators for the 97 model are on recall. It could be that the alternator gave up. It happened to me. Three of your warning lights will come on when this happens.

It's not your spark plugs.....it could be your starter, battery, or alternator. The contacts in your starter could be sticking....

When you try to start the car, leave the headlight on and see if it dims. If the headlight is still bright, that means battery is good and the problem may be the starter. I notice we are getting a lot of starter problems lately. Must be the winter is coming.

Probably your starter... i had that exact same problem (wasn't my battery, spark plugs)... and it turns out the starter went out, cost me like $300 to fix

it's obvious it is the starter like it was mentioned in the last posts.

There is no reason as to why the spark plugs would cause the car not to start unless the engine is extremly flooded, so I don't see why that's even mentioned.

try this at your own risk!

give 2 or 3 gentle taps on your starter with a spanner or some tool and try starting it.It'll work if the battery is good!!

take care,
jay

Make sure the terminals on the starter are connected well and not corroded, i had a clicking noise and it was because one of the terminals was lose and it was arching badly (electricity jumping from the connector to the terminal)

I've had the same problem with both of our cars, 95 & 96SE's. More often with the 95. I've replaced in order; both battery cables along with the wires from the positive terminal to the fuse links/fuse box, the battery, and the starter solenoid along with cleaning and lubing the starter. Each time it seemed to be the fix but within a week or two it would happen again. Sometimes it would crank the second or third time, other times it would take much longer but will eventually start like nothing is wrong. After the last time, and after looking at the starting circuit diagram, I bypassed the theft relay, so far it hasn't happened since bypassing the theft relay on Nov 1. I still can't say it's fixed but prior to this it would happen at least once every two weeks or at least two or three times a month.

You will know if it is your alternator. I went to the stealership to see about a new starter. They told me about the price of the starter and to make sure that you don't have an alternator with a SILVER STICKER. If you do, you are on the recall list for a new alternator. Go get one ASAP you don't want to be stranded over a nissan defect. All other colors are fine.
