thump in idle...

Whenever I am sitting in traffic stopped, the idle sometimes bumps.. kinda weird. It doesnt do it all the time, but it usually happens when the car is warmed up. When the idle does bump, the rpms go down just a bit (less than 100), and then back up. I tested the coils not long ago and got the ohm readings of 1.55, 1.68, 1.68, 1.68, 1.68, and 1.88.. could the 1.55 or 1.88 coil be bad?

Most likely you have a coil or coils going bad. All my coils tested fine and within specs. After my third coil started to go, I just went ahead and replaced them all. 6 months of misfires with the coils testing fine, until finally they through a code to tell which cylinder was misfiring. The 99's have alot of problems with there coils. Best advice, IMO, is to go ahead and replace them all at once. Run about $58 a piece at Courtesy Nissan. Wish I did that on the front end rather then testing them every week for months. I went ahead with the Mitsubishi ones and haven't had any problems since.

should I wait for it to throw a CEL code or just go ahead and replace them all?

Did you get your coils checked out somewhere? How can I test them myself because I have the same problem.

I used an OHM meter... Jason (infinitiblast) told me exactly how to do it.. PM him about it, he's on the board almost every day

I had the EXACT same problem - sometimes the "bump" would happen two or three times (rapidly) in a row, other times it wouldn't do it for a while.

I cleaned my throttle body, replaced PCV valve, and replaced the plugs with NGK coppers. That was a week ago and I haven't noticed the "bumping" since...

I thought it was a coil going bad, but maybe it was the plugs?

I'm having the same problems except my car lags in the acceleration as if something was block the car from its full potential. how much would it cost to replace the coils?

Even after my coils threw a code, they still tested fine with the ohm meter. The ohm meter is not an accurate test for these coils. I'd first do the tuneup stuff before going ahead and replacing them. You might be able to through a code by quickly accelerating the car, slow down, floor it, and see if you can get a code. I was able to do this with my last coil that went out. The light just blinked a few times, but never stayed on. The ecu will still have the code in memory. Good Luck.

Someone said they put in Mitsu coils, are these better then the Nissan coils. I just dropped $1200 to put in new coils.
