remote starter prob. plz help

ok so me and my friend wired up a remote starter to my 97 max today, attempting to get away without buying any extra peices to bypass the factory antitheft system. however now that everything is wired up when i start it with the remote starter the engine runs for 5 seconds as if you were holding the key in startup then dies, do i absolutely need to buy a peice to bypass it? and if so what peice...its a bulldog security, but if there is a way to fix this without buying a peice, plz tell. It seems as if the starter doesnt know when to stop and let the engine run instead it keeps pushing it...thx

I just installed a bullldog remote starter on my mom vehicle (kinda teaches you hot to hot wire a car ).....but any way, did you use the tach start or tach-less start?

I think your problem lies in the ingnition circuity. In the 4th gener's, there are two ignition circuits (starter wires) that must be tapped into when remote starting. Since I don't have the car anymore, I can't help you how my remote start was wired up, but i can tell you what wires were tapped into to make it work. I'm not sure how your type of alarm is wired, but it should be somewhat close to my Viper when I had it. There is a second starter wire that must be energized with another relay when remote starting. In my '95, the wire was green/black in color. The first starter wire was black/yellow. All of these wires are located in the ignition harness. You must remove the steering column cowl trim to access the ignition harness. Note, too, the wire colors change at the plug, but they function all the same. Just make sure you tap into the the right ones when they meet at the plug. I, believe, right now your only tapped into one starter wire. The remote starter must read (energize) both signals to both starter wires in order to start electronically. I hope this helps any.

Bulldog remote starters have instructions on how to tap into 2 or 3 wires for the same thing....they even have separate wires to connect to each one. I dont think thats your problem. It think that you either tapped into a wrong wire somewhere because it's not staying in the run position, or it has something to do with the tach or tachless wire. Double check EVERY wire in every key position with the probe they include and label each wire that shows 12v in each position and then decide which wires need to be tapped. You may think that you found the wire for a certain application but there could be more than 1 and you dont know until it check all of them.

EDIT: actually a good way to check if you ned extra relays and what not is to sorta hot wire the car yourself. Basically, just take the 12v wire, connect all the run wires to it, and then just touch the starter wire to it for a few seconds. It should run, and if it does then you have a problem with the wiring....if it doesnt then you may need extra relays or disable the security feature or something
