My max is alittle over 100K miles. I am wondering if i should not spend anymore money on it( i do not have that much right now anyways) but i just thinking is it still worth it.
I think it depends on the type of modifying. There' no problem putting new struts and shocks on a Maxima with 250kmiles, but I wouldn't put a nitrous-oxide system on one. I say suspension and N/A mods have no limit, but boost is 100k miles.

I'd say mod when something needs replacing, ie: struts. Why put oem struts when you can get high performance ones for improved handling. I just put on a HAI intake, mine has 115k. That's ok because it helps the engine breath better. You can also add a catback exhaust, Y-pipe, B-pipe...simple bolt-ons. But NOS or S/C, I'd avoid that unless you are going to overhaul your engine and you really want to keep your Maxima forever.
Miles really dont mean to much to me anyways. I put 500miles plus a week on mine but its all highway. If I was a stop and go driver all the time with over 120k I probably wouldnt mod it.......and would want an auto.................wait i take that back.I would sitll want a 5spd

The value of my max is a none issue for me. In my case it would take extreme $$$ to return to stock so I'm keeping it until it goes to VQ heaven. Depending on when that is I still might keep it and build the **** out of the motor.
I plan to keep my Maxima until it dies (which should be a long time). . . right now I have 99800 miles . . . and I just put rims on it (2k2 SE wheels). Once I get enough money to buy another car, it will be a 2 seater sports car, in which I could keep the Maxima as the bad weather / bad neighborhood / people carrier.

I wouldn't give it a second thought if the motor does not burn oil and passes a compression test.
As for me:
Installed N2O kit at 120K miles...
She does 13 sec 1/4 mile runs with the 50 shot and slicks.

Just ordered a SC kit and I now have 131K miles...
And I sooooo do not baby it.
But I must add that I am prepared (mentally and financially) to buy (and build up) another VQ when this motor blows... I say "when" because I'm planning on running the 11.5 PSI pully and a 75 shot later this summer.
I personally would not do much with it outside the suspension mods and slight power mods if I had it all to do over. As I just failed my emissions and the car is running great I can only assume at some point my ECU threw some codes. It’s nice to have the extra mid range torque and power, but it does not make up for the pain in the *** it is for me now to pass my emissions.
As I look back the car has been extremely dependable. And in stock form was very fast. It fell short only in suspension really. The mods I have done may have given me a .5 to .75 advantage in 0-60 times and perhaps the same in the 1/4 mile. But that means perfect driving which is very hard to pull off all the time. I do like the added passing power. 40-80, 60-100 etc. But to tell you the truth I had rather have a more refined stable car new and untouched. That’s just me now since I have a turbo coupe to modify with no consequences. So if its your daily driver and you would be in a world of hurt if it were to give you problems I don't think the mileage matters, just do what you know will not cause you any problems. If it’s a second car or a project mod away until the wheels falls off.
I wish I had made my car comfortable to drive daily and spent the extra cash earlier on a real sports car. (Older) to modify and throw all the cash at that I have thrown into my maxima. Kept my maxima for what it is. I truly dependable nice 4 door sedan. Improved the suspension and done nothing to make the car any louder in the cabin than it already was. (Y-B pipes and Cone etc.)
And thrown all that money at a car built for the track to go out and hunt c-5 vettes and mustangs in just for fun!
However my next daily driver car may very well be a stock 2002 or 2003 maxima. But I would not change one thing on it.

i have 50k on my max and i just barely started moding, i will never stop untill the car is totaled, if the motor blows get a new one and go at it again, when it reaches about 150k that is when im going full race, one piece front, sripping the whole thing down and replacing metal parts with light weight parts, that's that my plans are, but for now its just gonna be a really fast family car.
I agree with 2damax, replace a broken stock part with a mod if possible. My flex section on my stock y-pipe just ripped and the b-pipe was rusting to pieces, so I modded both of them instead of putting on oem. I'm at 230,000 miles.
LOL I started modding my old 2nd gen after it went over 200k miles. The engine still had 175psi in all cylinders after all those miles! Eventually I went hardcore and had the heads ported along with installing isky 262 cams. But I didn't upgrade my valve springs so I floated the valves by holding the engine over 6000rpm for a longtime. It put a nice hole in cyl #2 and broke the rocker arm, exhaust valve
.
.
I stopped modding at 70k, started at 55k, I have a baby on the way and I am leaving the country for a year this summer...so no point in modding anymore...besides I plan on getting a G35c after I come back to the states..then let the modding begin once again...hehe
Treat your car like a woman. If she's going to be around for a while, buy her some bling and take her to nice places. If not why waste your time, money, or efforts? It depends if you are keeping the car or waiting to get something better. Don't waste money modding if you just gonna ditch it in a year. You'll never get that money back.
Brought my car with 181K and now have 210K and still modding. not much engine mods until i get a new motor with under 50K. But still going!
probally put a 50 shot in before swap, watch things blow up
...lol jk

Don't know if you were talking to me, but I have had my max for 2.5 years. Plans just changed on me, I wasn't planning on leaving the country for a year. Just gotta go with the change, know what I'm saying. So instead of having car payments while I am overseas, might as well sell. I wouldn't call it a total loss either, learned quite a bit from installing the mods myself, talked to some pretty cool people on the org...etc.

Thast for the engin. then my 5spd was changed, clutch, struts. and thast from going to 181,000 when i brought it to 201,000 when i change all that and 208 when i change the water pump. so they do last a long time!
It really depends, a car with 100,000 miles on it can run better than a car with 1/2 as many miles, its all about if it was taken care of or not. Many maximas with 100,000+ miles can run like they did when they were new, but only if they were properly taken care of those miles that were put on, if it wasnt taken care of, it will shorten the life of the car.
i know people that have put SC's at 150+k miles. I know people who have put new street clutch on their car over 200k miles. It all depends on how well your car has been treated and maintained. I just changed my clutch at 146k miles when others have to change theirs at 80k miles. Nissan Maxima is a very durable car...miles mean nothing, its all on the owner. You should base your decision on asking "how long should we mod a car that was taken care of by an org member vs an old lady vs a young kid"
never too late.
i started after 120.. didn't stop after 140k..
now i am on a 5th gen and started after 105k.. milage has nothing to do with when i decide to stop.
these cars go forever..
what's the worst that can happen?
your engine blows?
no big deal.. VQ with 40k miles can be bought for like 500 bucks.. and maybe 600-1000 for labor then you have a new car

Exactly what Steve said. Once you buy a new heart it's like a new car. When I was telling my mom my plans on doing the 5-spd conversion one of my main points was. "New" transmission, "new" car.
But right now I'm going to do the 97-99 Front and rear conversions. So it's getting a nose job that'll look brand new.
