Belts
I recently took my car to get the oil changed and they said that all my belts were cracked and going bad, and quoted me 149 plus tax to change two. i wanted to know if A.) there are only two belts if "all" of them are bad, b) is that a decent price, and c) is it easy to change them yourself and worth the money to do it yourself. thanks.

16 bucks for a dayco drive belt
12 bucks for a dayco powersteering belt.
power steering belt is harder to replace becuase you have to loose the bolt that holds the pump. Took me 2 hours to replace them.

Cracked belts are normal. This alone does not justify replacing them . If they have broken ribs, then yes do change.
Is is easy for a garage to say "your belts are cracked and going bad", but what they dont tell you is they are still ok to drive. I had the alternator replaced last month as part of the recall. I was expecting them to call me and say: "Mister customer your belts are cracked. Will only cost you pasrs no labor to change cause we had to take them out anyway to get the alternator out". They exactly did that. They called me at work ( I had left left the car at the dealer) and was offered this exact sales pitch.
I removed the belts 8 months ago to inspect them; of course they were cracked back then. The belts probably develop cracks in the first year of the car.
I politely refused.
Like others said, this is good DIY job anyway. If you want peace of mind, then buy new belts and change them yourself. Good luck!
