Is this hole in my tranny supposed to be here? Leaking Fluid Help!!!
I've got a pretty bad trans leak and I found this hole. Also, the bolts that hold the seam of the tranny together are stripped so it might not be the hole. I plan on using some JB Weld to seal this up cause its leaking pretty bad. thanks

It's not a hole, I believe it's a notch. These notches are use to help separate the two pieces that are bolted together. First you have to remove all the bolts. Then, with a flat screw driver placed in the notch, you can pry aprt the two parts.

its supposed to be there because when u take the tranny apart u can stick a flat head in there and pry it open easier. yea like they said it might be just a gasket problem that is leaking if tehre is any gasket, im not sure of that haven't taken my tranny apart yet.

thanks for the replies guys. I'm pretty sure it leaking due to the two lower bolt holes being stripped out. i bought some longer bolts from lowe's and will see if that helps out any as well as putting the jb weld on there. thanks again

one more question, i stripped both holds when i mistook these botls for the ones on the little trap door. I had already taken them both out when i realized they were the wrong ones and when i put them back i stripped the hole thats towards the back. I was using nothing but hand power and wasn't even in a good position to turn the wrench that hard. Should the hole have stripped so easily?

reminds me of when I tried to seal a rear main seal on an old mitsubishi. it's looked easy to just fill in holes with sealant, but it wasn't.
Secondly....if you got stripped bolts only....try those re-tap kit's...or an experienced auto shop. They should be able to retap threads into the stripped ones and use new *matching* bolts. I've yet to have to retap holes, but that's just my own experience so far.
It's quite easy to strip bolts...remember to use your hands only to thread in old bolts next time...and use a torque wrench to torque down properly...they are only $20 nowadays (torque wrench).
Me thinks whoever "re-built" your tranny last time, screwed up ( didn't use torque wrench and/or didn't use proper seal components). I wonder if that seam that is leaking ain't your rear main seal. I've never had to deal with a rear main leaking on my max...yet. any comments?

i agree with izzy, sounds like someone messed up your trans already. that part of the case shouldnt undergo much stress, and accord to you, you didnt apply nearly enough force to hurt it

well i got some longer bolts and managed to get them in there. i tightened them until i was scared to tighen them any further. I have a torque wrench, but its impossible to fit it in there so i just had to go off feel. i'm still in the process of changing my 02 sensors, so i'm not driving it yet.
