I've seen a Miata with a Chevy big block so, as everyone will say: Depends on how big your pocket book is. Nothing is impossible.

You can add turbo, take parts from the VQ30DET. No other engine can "dropped in" woith out major modification.

So a VQ30DET is pretty much a straight drop-in? That is to say, with minor modification...

No, the VQ30DET cannot be dropped in, the people who had the engines took the parts off of it for a reason.

What all parts BESIDES the bottom-end are used from the DET? Like, is it easy to use the turbo off of it or what not? (Just a theoretical question...) COULD you use the turbo off of it if you wanted to (if you had a somewhat boost-prepped engine)? The DET has a lower compression ratio doesn't it? What makes that different, the headgasket or what?

Better yet...anyone know of a site with lots of DET info on it?

you can use all the internals from the DET like everyone else said, but its not a direct bolt on, im planning on getting a DET motor and a DE motor and then il just take out teh internals from the det and put them in the spare DE and and the port and polish it sence its out and drop it in my max, and them my max motor will be chillin in my garage while i mess with it and see what i can do to that, with some custom heads and stuff like that......... all this i plan on doing would be in the summer time... hope everything goes well, i just need to find that DET JUN manifold people bin talking about and i also need to find out where to get the DET and how much it will cost.

You sure it was a big block?
Ive seen small block 350's around my area in Miata's. , most popular are Ford 302's .

Take a look at the pics...those engines have mechanical fans on front of the engine where we have electrical fans mounted to our radiators. Those motors are built for mainly rwd vehicles since they should be mounted in the bay front-ward...not sideways like ours are.

Well from what we know, the head is identical to the DE, I.E. cams and valve timing. The pistons are slightly dished in the DET for the 9:1 compression ratio. Also the DET crank has larger rod journals so that means the rods are different also. And IIRC, it has oil squirters that cool the bottom of each piston...

Man VSAMAYLOV can't even remember what he put in his car, just makes him look more shady. The DET is RWD so it won't fit directly. Use the pistons but why drop the CR to 9.5:1 or 9.0:1 if you aren't boosted? Other partscan also be used.

yea that's y i was thinking about getting the DET and gutting it for the internals sence im gonna go with a turbo thi summer and cause of the compression ratio.
