Put in the wrong gas !

A friend filled my car up for me and he put in 87 octane. I think it's supposed to be 91+? Do I have to wait until it hits empty to fill up with the right octane? Is mixing different octanes okay?

Slap him in the head... 7 times. but seriously, it should be ok for just a tankfull... when I had some warranty work done over the summer the stealership ran a tank of 87 through it (i found the gas receipt) and I didn't have any trouble with it for just the one tank. Mixing octanes is ok.

You'll be fine. Your car won't implode or anything.

If you really insist, drive until you can pour about a gallon or two of toluene to up the octane and drive over a bumby road to mix well.

a quick dumb question, but since you work at a gas station, do you get free/discounted gas?

just curious.

Why do you need 91 octane (premium right) instead of 87 (regular im guessing) i dont have my liscense, but we take the car out of storage in april, so i will need to know, is it REALLY that important to use premium, and why so? cuz for now im running regular when i take it out and drive it to keep it runnin.

Nothing is going to happen. Don't worry, just make sure it doesn't happen all the time

Thank you for the reassurance. With no other choice, I'll just run through this tank and then fill it up myself next time. I do notice the shifting is a little off (I have an auto) but it might just be psychological.

Put some octane booster in your tank. That should help out.
