EVERYONE WITH A Y-PIPE: What sound does yours make?

Hey guys. As my first mod, I was thinkin of gettin a y-pipe. I realize that there are a ton of different brands out there. My question is: does each brand (budget, warpspeed, stillen, etc) make their own distinctive sound? The reason I ask this is because I would only have a y-pipe on for the next several months (lack of funds. lol.) and want to know what this mod would sound like ALONE. Thanks.

P.S. Does anyone have any sound clips?

Almost like stock, with everything else stock. Maybe sounding a little meaner!

the reason why i ask the sound is because i am afraid of anything sounding too ricey. I HATE RICERS.

my budget is more of a "gurgle, gurgle, gurgle... vroooooooooom, vrooooooooooooooooooooooom"

The sound of your car is ultimately determined by your muffler. If you keep the stock muffler, the y-pipe will hardly be noticible.

Your y-pipe won't make you sound like rice. That's your muffler's job... "fart cannon"... I'm lookin into a 5th gen muffler instead of one of the shiny ricers.

I have a Budget ypipe. When revved it has a little bit of a bees in the can sound. When you get on it, it makes a hissing noise, not too loud or anything. I think it sounds pretty cool.

When you go full throttle and let out it goes VROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMM I love that sound, gives me goosebumps everytime.

I have a HAI, but stock bpipe and muffler.

everytime i start up in gear and rev it a little, it gives a nice quiet growling sound. but if i really rev it and take it to redline, then the intake sound becomes louder and you can't really hear your ypipe anymore. btw all I have is a cattman ypipe and a frankencar intake.

i got the budget Y and its got great power, but its budget for a reason. I think I'm the only one who has a mishaped one, that leans to the left. Thus making the b pipe rub against the side of the valance.

How would Y-Pipe together with an intake and straight through muffler sound? I don't want a high pitched whiney bee can sound like ceasar has. I've heard Frank's car in person and it had a nice burble at idle.

Cattman: very minimal noise compared to stock. Certainly no bad noises.

I have warpspeed y-pipe too with 2.5" b-pipe and 5th gen muffler. It sounds good. There is a little growl when you first crank it up and at very low rpm's. Then, when you really get on it, there is a little hiss(pretty much only noticeable with the windows down) and then it just sounds like all motor at WOT. I love it.
**check out my homepage for a few pics of the 5th gen muffler on my car.

"THPPFFT", ie. Bill the Cat. Budget Y pipe with blown OEM muffler has a nice deep rumble. Added a Magnaflow (straight through muffler) and it has a DEEEEEPPPPP growl, but is obnoxiously loud. And the RESONANCE! Around 1800 rpm there is a boom throughout the car, especially under load. It quiets down over 2k, but most city driving occurs around 1800. Don't do the Magna unless you want attention. Hey, I take it back.....buy mine and give me your OEM!

Ive got a WSP ypipe and a custom 2.5" exhaust, no resonator, and a dynomax super turbo muffler. Very deep idle, it sound mean. When I stop on the gas it gives a nice growl. I need to check to see where my bpipe is grinding against the floorboard, but other than that, it sounds ok I guess. My exhaust is still adjusting to the ypipe.

Blue C, I had to take my car back to the muffler shop a couple of days after they put the 2.5" b-piping on there. They had welded it a little bit too close to the bottom of the car. It would knock going over bumps. I took it back, and he just lowered it a little on that hanger and it is great now. Don't be scared to go back, you rarely get it perfect the first time. They can make it right, I am sure.

Wow yours must be as loud as mine! I just put on a Cattman Y pipe and I have 2.5" piping all the way back to a Flowmaster 80 series, with no resonator... It went from loud to LOWD. Ask the guys who went to the Tobay Beach meet in the North East FOrums, I had the loudest car there. I do however LOVE the way it sounds at idle, it has the sweet mellow burble of a V8.

Mine is not as loud as yours. You have dual pipes and a much louder muffler. I have 5th gen stock muffler and stock resonator.

ypipe is barely noticeable, took a week or two for the sound to die down, it was really grumbly...if thats even a word for the first two weeks, but now you cant notice it, only the drive can notice the ypipe, everyone else thinks the car is stock

i had an apexi exhaust on before the y-pipe, the exhaust sounded perfect. After installing the y-pipe i really didn't like the sound of the exhaust.

I really would like to change exhausts but i don't think there would be any other chance of having a good sounding exhaust after the y is installed.

Yes EXACTLY how mine sounds. At idle I love it, it really rumbles like a V8 hehehe. It does get a bit loud, but I like it. Not to mention when I start up my car, everyone around me turns their head expecting a camaro or something.

Yes we are

But right now mine is pretty loud, did yours quiet down after you installed the ypipe? or does it just stay that way. I heard somewhere the first week is the loudest.... I think my neighbors dont like me coming home at 1am anymore, I live on a hill, so coming up the hill its super loud, I find it funny though.

Nah it doesnt quiet down, thats just what they say cuz they get used to the sound. My neighbors must hate me, I park my car between two buildings so when I start up in the morning I have to pull the car into the street to warm it up. The resonance between the buildings is loud as hell... but I love it.
