A/C Screwed, Evaporator?? Unclear answers
Well, according to a goofy mechanic my evaporator is broken, I have a leak somewhere and he says its the evap thats leaking... ANYWAYS I cant seem to find ANYTHING in the FSM that says anything about a evaporator....He's trying to charge $800 to fix it...
Im pretty unclear on where the evap is, supposed to be inside the dash? But according to teh FSM theres nothing in there but the blower motor...
Could someone clear this up please? =\

the evap is behind the raditor on the drivers side of the car...Its in the shape of a canister and is about $85 and install would maybe be $40...
If your Compressor is shot that would be more on the lines of $400...then install and charging the system with freon and such would run a good amount..

deano1122 is correct ....the evaporator is inside the air box behind the dash... located near the heater core.... I have not looked up evap replacement on the Max but it may require removal of the dash to replace....lotsa labor.... some cars have an axcess port in the side of the evap case allowing easy removal... still about 3hrs labor... the underhood parts are /condenser located in front od the radiator/ receiver dryer(accumulator) in line near condenser/ compressor belt driven acc on eng... I'm not sure if the expansion valve is located at the firewall or on the evap core..never looked

Yeah I Figured that out a few days ago, according to alldata its 1.8hours of labor, about $100... I heard its pretty simple and you dont need to take out the dash, only the glovebox... I have shop instructions w/ pictures here.. imma tackle it myself.

NOTE: If the evaporator is to be replaced add 2.4oz. oil.
1) Disconnect battery ground cable and discharge A/C System.
2) Disconnect refridgerant lines to evaporator and plug lines and open fittings.
3) Remove screws securing right hand lower dash and glove box, then remove panels.
4) Disconnect wiring harness connector to evaporator case.
5) Remove 3 mounting bolts, then remove evaporator case assembly.
6) Remove clips securing evaporator case, then seperate case and remove evaporator assembly.
7) Remove insulation from expansion valve sensor tube, loosen clamp and disconnect sensor from evaporator outlet.
8) Disconnect and remove expansion valve/suction throttling valve assembly. Di not disassemble valves. If necessary, replace as an assembly.
9) Reverse procedure to install.

thats cool to know.... i work on VW's and they are a PITA.... pull the dash....6-8hrs... glad to see Nissan set up the evap like Toyota....open the case and pull it out the side if the expansion valve is located on the evap ..consider replacing it while your in there...later
