Just Installed EVo 5's

And I have to be honest the ride is a lot harder I got the 18 by 7.5's and around these Jersey streets it seems rough, highway is much better tho. Sometimes on uneven road surfaces the tires want to yank the steering wheel out of my hand not at all safe, and when braking on uneven surfaces same story the steering wheel seems to have a mind of its own. But I'm assuming its because of the much stiffer sidewalls. Note: I can no longer peel out from a stop also which I miss , are these rims significantly heavier than my stock 15" steelies? What can I do to soften up the ride a lil bit so it's more forgiving on uneven surfaces and potholes.

I have the same problem with the steering wheel yanks with my 18s...i thought it was because the traction on the new tires was better.
My wheels are also very heavy btw

Wider tires will tend to yank the steering wheel around more. My 87 Iroc with 245/50R16s on it did it all the time. I guess it kinda comes with the territory.

thats what you get for getting 18's. they look nice but you sacrifice ride quality.

I just pit 17" X 7.5" on my Max and I can say the ride is definately beautiful. I feel less bumps than I did on my stock 15" steelies. The 17's are very nice IMO. BTW, I also have a 2" drop! Plus the are lighter weight so i still can get the speed up.

Well I can safely assume that the MM EVO5's weigh maybe 10 more lbs than my stock 15" steelies, would that be safe to say? I definantly notice much better handling I feel so much comfortable taking curves and such now, can't wait till' I drop her. It's not all about show, wider tires = better traction = GOOD overall handling. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Your right pretty much... but thiers more to it.... a lot of the handeling has to do with sidewall stiffness and also the tread wear on the side of the tire. The lower the treadwear the stickier the tires are + they won't last as long. Those are a couple

Unfortunatly thats what happens when u get 18's... my sollution was to get bigger tires. I went from 225/40/18's to 245/45/18's (stock off 04 max). Ride was 100x better and wheel gap is a lot smaller now, but rims look tiny now!! there are sacrafices for everything. Next set of tire's I will get will prob be 245/40/18's and its what I would recomend to u. Also an All season compound if u plan on keeping them on year round.

Suspension and the type of tire you run have more to do with handling then the diameter of the rim. My cornering on 215/60 R15 Potenza RE950's and Eibachs is just as good as it was on 235/45 R17 Potenza RE950's and Eibachs.

Your acceleration and braking also took a big hit by running a significantly heavier wheel/tire combo. I bet each wheel and tire combo is a good 15lbs heavier then before. That's 60lbs of unsprung weight which equates to 480lbs of dead weight on the car. In terms of all around performance you are much worse of then if you just put good tires on the stock rims.
