Go custom with a Dynomax muffler, it sounds very nice. Has a super deep rumble to it. When I hit WOT on the freeway it sounds nice.
Total cost of my catback $145. But make sure you get a ypipe too, that makes it much deeper.

Screw the environment? Its thoughts like that which drive the government to have emissions tests. The cat is necessary, and isn't that restrictive. At best 5hp, and that ain't much on the maxima.
Hey BlueC, what kind of pipes did you get? Did you weld them yourself? $145 for a cat back is very cheap.

Damn alot of questions. Ill try to get a sound clip sometime this week, ill be busy. I had it done professionally at a shop I know, I had a connection. Basically, I got the dynomax super turbo muffler off of jegs.com for $45 shipped. Then brought it over to the shop, the shop owner made the piping, welded everything together. With the ypipe it made it super deep and rumbly. It is pretty loud right now ( I hear the ypipe takes a week or so to break in and it gets quieter) but it sounds very nice. At idle at a stoplight, it rumbles super super deep. Doesnt sound ricey at all, more deep like a muscle car. I dont exactly have a tip on my muffler, the shop just extended the tip with 2.5" piping. Any larger of a tip and it would probably sound ricey. Amazing how deep it sounds now. When you go custom though, make sure its a good shop, dont be the first to try out a shop, you'll never know their quality until you get back your car.
Hope that helps, Ill post a thread with sound clips/vids when I have the chance in the next couple weeks. All I can say is, it sounds damn perfect of what I wanted.

GReddy SP2 all the way! I know it costs a lot more than others out there. But for me it's the perfect sound, I never hear it until 3k in 2nd gear. And after hacking my airbox, I don't hear it at all! LOL. With a y-pipe I think it will get only better.

Congrats on your time. . . you should be able to run 15 flat if you practice. Thats 7/10 off your current time. . driver skill will give you more advantage than any exhaust or intake.
