Why the hell is a CAI so expensive?

Yeah, they can be had on eBay at really good prices. I'd just recommend getting a K&N filter as well. From what I've seen, the filters that come with the eBay intakes are crap.
But, I do agree with you about the 'brand name' ones being way over priced. It's all in a name I guess.

Your just paying for the name. I got mine for $90 shipped at www.procarparts.com

I think intakes are bulls**t... just a lot of hype. I mean I am sure that they help some, but $200 for a pipe and a filter seems like a ripoff.
If I am to put one on my car, I will be making it myself maybe getting a cheapass one on ebay.

I think its all the actual testing and revising of the model that makes them more expensive. Take a look at springs, dropzones that are below 80 dollars isnt well engineered compared to Eibachs which were thoroughly tested. Plus Stillen one of nissans aftermarket innovaters costs way more than the next competition but they were probably the firsts ones to come out with the product instead of a cheap knockoff companies are imitating.

brand names always cost more, look at our cars 95-99 and the same year I30 only difference was price and a few options
its just like one of the moderators says: "maxima just sounds cheap", all the brand name cars have numbers and letters: mercedes, lexus, infinity, bmw.
these are the mind games you can play with a marketing degree

why so expensive? beacuse everyone is willing to pay, the uninformed dont know its a pipe and filter, tahts why youll see people ask "i heard injen is MUCH better than an ebay intake" blah blah blah, i guess if they wanna blow the money, go right ahead

Basically it's the name that you buy. The filter of name brands are much more than ones that don't. If i were you just do what everyone days, go with the ebay one. Then buy a decent filter like a K&N.
